With Hubba, director Bratya Basu explores the world of the infamous Hubba Shyamal Das, who was also known as the Dawood Ibrahim of Hoogly. Here, the names have been changed a bit, where Shyamal becomes Bimal, but the director tries to stay true to the way the crime boss grew to become the terrifying entity he was.
As the film traces the life of Bimal (Mosharraf Karim) and his gang, the timeline shifts between his growing up years, how he creates a faction that slowly starts emerging strong as a crime gang that has multiple ins into the local political scene as well as the police. As he gets away with one crime after another, one may even at times feel sympathy for him, thanks to the way the director builds up Hubba’s character and charisma.
